How to Clean Custom Foam

Once you've started using your custom foam inserts, they will inevitably encounter dirt, dust, and contamination. OSAAP's custom foam is made from Zotefoam, a durable, closed-cell material built to withstand thousands of uses. To preserve both its performance and appearance over time, proper cleaning and maintenance are essential. Below you will find methods to help you treat the material safely and effectively.

Recommended Cleaning Methods

Cleaning Zotefoam

Custom foam can be washed using household soaps and detergents in warm water. If you are using automatic washing cycles, a cool wash, not exceeding 40°C, is recommended. To dry the materials after the cleaning process, air drying at room temperature or towels (or similar absorbent materials) can be used.

Using hot air or hot cleaning fluids in the drying process can affect the properties of the foam and is not recommended. This can lead to shrinkage, deformation, and densification of your custom foam inserts.

Disinfecting Zotefoam

The following disinfection method is recommended for foam that requires more thorough sanitation.

1. Fill 5-10 litres of water, hand-hot, into a suitable container.
2. Add 30ml of commercially available detergent/hypochlorite solution (e.g Domestos).
3. Use a clean cloth to thoroughly wash the material.
4. To dry, use a clean cloth or air dry at room temperature.

Important

The following types of sterilisation are not suitable for Zotefoam.

1. Heat Sterilisation: Material is exposed to elevated temperatures and/or pressures for an extended period of time to kill all pathogens on the material.
2. Chemical Sterilisation: Material is subjected to ethylene oxide at slightly elevated temperatures and then undergoes a degassing process.
